Had 3 days of ridiculously high bloods for my daughter she's not ill ,i have changed her cartridges and today ratios from 1:15 to 1:10 and there still high.im worried she has no ketones ,could I have a bad batch worrying its the end of the honeymoon period ...they have not been under 12 today and reached 25 she has had 3 correction doses and her norm bloods are between 4-9!!
Has she been less active than usual today?
Would suggest if not coming down after changing insulin, tubing etc, to try an increased temp basal rate with the increased ratios. monitor carefully. Hopefully they will come down gradually. May need different rates for weekends and school hols. A good idea to keep a separate diary for weekends and holidays to refer back to.
sorry shell she not pumping is she! If been a consistent few days with school hols maybe try to increase the basal dose if had high bloods for a few days as well as the increased ratios.
No not pumping yet ...she has basal every night at half 7 ,6 units which I've already given do u think I should give her another unit ?shes still awake .shes been super active as well as being a total nightmare really argumentative and tearful a typical high ! I think will ring nurse tomorrow if she's still bad tomo or try get another batch of insulin maybe its that .also how long is insulin in system her bs monitor told me to correct at 7 half a unit ,going to check her soon and don't want to correct if insulin still in system the monitor should tell me but yest it told me to correct 30 mins after eating !! She only checked as she was going out to play
If you injected a correction already at 7, it will be in her system till 11~12. the dose will trail off usually after 3~3.5 hours but can stilll effect levels for another 1~1.5 hours after. If your monitor is set up to do correction doses and you have done that, would wait til 11 and re~test then if you can. If she is stilll high in the morning, and through the day contact your dsn asap. maybe settings for qa and correction doses need to be looked at as well as a small basal increase. Do speak to your dsn first.
Think its alot harder to control someone elses diabetes yet alone growing children with lots extra factors to consider. Your doing a fab job, hope things settle tomorrow.
