Day 3 for me, no bad effects at all, feel ok. Rising BG levels are 5.7 each morning and coming down nicely. I don't see any effect of lessening of hunger pangs as yet, but I suppose that will come in time when I up the dosage. I will weigh myself today to see what has happened, I don't want to keep weighing myself every five minutes so set on only doing it twice a week, but I do feel a little lighter. Does anyone else get the urge to run to the loo more often? when I mean the loo- to pee? I can't seem to stop lol, maybe that is my only side effect.

Day 4-feeling really good at the moment, my BG levels are great each morning on rising it's 5.5 so it's getting consistant. My eye sight has improved so much that I think I need another eye test, I did not realise that my eyesight was so poor just on tablets, now with the combination of Victoza and Gliclizide is workign far better for me.

Someone mentioned about the headaches, you do get headaches but they are easily sorted with paracetamol, but after a few days the headaches subside.

Time for an update. I have been taking the 1.2mg dose of Victoza for 5 days now and have experienced no side effects whatsoever. Sugar levels are between 5 and 7 which is a bit more stable than when I was on insulin so I'm very happy at the moment. I hope it works out for the rest of you.

Day 5 for me, nothing bad to report but I did weigh myself and lost 2lbs in 5 days whether that's down to Victoza or because I have bags more energy I don't know? all is looking well at the moment so I can't complain.

been back to see my team they have put me on 1.8 victoza have had no side effec so far on 0.6 then 1.2 so i will let you know how i go

can you help me i have been on VICTOZA for 3 months and at first i lost 1.4 stone i also cut down on eating with the help of victoza it stopped me feeling hungery but sinc xmas i but 8lbs back on i was not eating as much as i used to but i feel hungery a lot more is this ok my sugers are down
 
Liraglutide (Victoza)

My consultant wants to put me on this medication. I asked about my GP refusing due to the expense and we discussed this - she said there is 3 levels and it is the top level which is very expensive but there are very few people who need to go on that.

What I wanted to ask the forum is - is there a website I can visit that shows the cost of medications and/or what my surgery's policy is?

Like my surgery they had to justify the cost, I was sent to see a Specialist Diabetic Nurse who went through vigoriously what the drug does, I had to have training on using the novo pen etc...I was then told that they would write to the surgery requesting I start the drug. |I have now been on it 6 days and it's working well, I have lost 3 3/4lb in weight, I never feel hungry, but when I eat I don't eat as much because I feel fuller. My BG levels are great and are averaging out well. It might be worth asking about it again in a while. If I remember the cost equated to about £5 a day or something like that.

Seems natural to me, everyone plateaus out at sometime I think. I am sure someone on this forum has been on it longer that I have. Just keep going you'll do ok I am sure and lose more weight, maybe rethink the types of food you eat, are they high in calories? try cutting out more fat and add in more fresh veg etc...

Day 6, I had a bad night last night, BG levels were up to 9.0 before bed and I felt awful, maybe I had something high in carbs, when I get a highish reading I get a feeling of falling when I am asleep on rising this morning my levels were 5.0 so not bad. I am increasing the dosage to 1.2 on Sunday.

Thanks. I'm on Byetta now so I think it's very similar. My problem is I often miss the second injection as I don't eat in the evening. I understand this new one you can inject at any time of the day (keeping to the same time each day if poss) regardless of when you're going to eat so this seems much better.

Yes, Victoza is great because regards if you eat or not you take the drug at the same time every day etc...I was put on it because I couldn't keep remembering when to take meds, so this was perfect for me. I have a busy life as a full-time carer and full-time University student, this drug fits my lifestyle and also helps with the hypo's I used to have.

hi everybody! im new to this so here goes been type 2 for one year taking metformin/simvastin now my specialist has advised victosa as the best thing for me quoting "this will make you into a new man in all forms"ie weight suguars ect so fair enough ive read alot about it and on here which has been very helpful im going to get my testing kit and strips so i can check them as after 1 year no one has told me about!i have an appointment with the diabetic nurse tuesday but can anyone tell me how the injecting gonna be like i domt mind needles but not so sure about doing it to myself and where what parts? cheers.

I am new to injecting, but the needle is that small and so super fine you don't feel it (well I don't any way!), the Novo pen is easy to use and easy to store, I had two training and chat sessions with the diabetic specialist nurse and that was it, she was confident I could handle it well enough to do it on my own for the first time. On my first injection I was surprised on how easy it all was, being on victoza has helped me no end, my eyesight is more clearer (I don't know why|?) and my BG levels are controlled better. If you decide to go with Victoza remember it effects people differently and although I have personally had little in the way of side effects, some people have had some terrible ones.

I forgot to add I have now lost 4lbs in 1 week of being on Victoza, hopefully this will continue. I have a sense of having a full tummy after eating which stays like that for the rest of the day, so your less inclined to eat inbetween meals.

Day 7
I am now on a larger dose of 1.2 no side effects as yet, but I'll just get on with it anyway. Feeling lighter and a bit more energetic, sleeping much better, I had to drop the gliclizide because it was bringing down the BG too much, so after one day of not taking it it was still good and I didn't have a hypo.

I am new to the forum and new to Victoza too. The only side effect I have noticed is feeling tired from about 10am after injecting at 9am. I know its early days yet, but I hope I am going to be just as lucky with the higher dose and I also notice a considerable drop in my BG home testing readings and a marked loss in appetite too.
I did received an info e-mail from a friend mentioning Victoza Tablet trials and a follow up to say that the FDA of USA had approved them, but then amended the info so I'm not at all sure if the tablets are viable or not.
The injections are OK to use at home or somewhere private, but Victoza in tablet form has to be an improvement and less expensive prescription wise if only a saving in pen injectors and needles.

Does anybody know how long Victoza takes to kick in and lower BG readings?
