I have been stressing about the Easter as me and bf are going to visit his parents. His mother knows that I am diabetic and bless her when i have been before she has made sure i have soya milk as i am intolerant to normal milk and she bought reduced sugar marmalade and jam for breakfast (even though i hate the stuff) etc... but this was before i started low carbing so i could have the same meals.

My bf wants me to tell her about the low carbing but i hate the thought of that and i really really really do not want to create hassle or be a nuisance. I can deal with breakfast as probably i will take my rice crackers. Lunch at them is usually a baguette or wrap with salad stuff. i can probably do salad but whilst at home i can indulge in cold meat and cheese etc...it is different when you are in someone else's house.

Dinner - usually have pasta or meat and potatoe meal types. i can avoid potatoes but if she is cooking pasta what do i do!!

I am actually really not looking forward to it. and you know how it is....one must not get on potential mother in law's side!!!!!

I have been struggling with this a bit - not the inlaws bit - but not being in control of what others will cook. I had to have the pasta conversation because if someone plonks a bowl of spag bol in front of you you're pretty much stuffed.

I have explained to people that I'm on a bit of a weird diet at the moment, so will probably have more veg/meat instead of potatoes if that's ok. It makes it sound like it's a diet I've been told to follow rather than me being fussy and difficult.

I did try this with good friends of ours a couple of weeks ago and it went quite well - until pudding arrived and was individual meringues

Remember - wine reduces your levels, so you can always use that to medicate your way through the meal :D

Why not ring her up and say that you are bringing the main meal with you to give her a rest.

She will be pleased and you can also show her that you know how to cook, always a plus for a future MIL.

Unfortunately we are there for 4 days....so that might be a bit tricky...and as i have been known to be a bit ermmmm bossy in the kitchen....i better not run that risk :)

Hi

I would'nt stress over visiting people if you don't want to tell your bf mum about your diet take your own food
with you. Its not worth making yourself ill over it because stress is no good for the diabetes or the only other option is not to go.

Ah you just have to give her a call and talk about your new way of eating, just let her know that you would be happy with all meat and veggies, etc. The poor woman is giong to get her shopping in, she wants to make you welcome and comfortable, and you want to feel comfy too, so I think coimmunication is the answer here?
