Hello everybody

I've just joined, so please bear with me if I've posted this in the wrong place.
I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for 5 years (although it was probably developing for some years before that as I hadn't been to the doc for 7 years!!!). I take metformin, candersatan and statins and have controlled my blood sugar level pretty well - my last two six months tests came out at 6. Despite this my vision has deteriorated and I have had laser treatment and cataract surgery in both eyes. Last week my vision suddenly worsened so that I now cannot read normal sized print or use the computer without great dificulty. I've been signed off work for an initial period of two weeks. I've seen the consultant who says another blood vessel has ruptured in my left eye and my vision is now so impaired that I should not drive. Nothing can be done for at least 2 months as he wants to wait to see to what extent the fluid clears. As I spend all day at work transferring data from printed output to Excel spreadsheets I am very worried about my job.. I have found all sorts of magnifying glasses on the internet and I understand that there is a computer program which will enhance the visbility of the computer screen.. However, I would like to try before I buy. Can anyone tell me where these things can be viewed and is there any financial help available?
regards

Chris

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum, what bad luck with your eyes! I'm not a computer expert but don't some computer programmes have the facility to blow up the text on-screen? I'm talking about Xp or Vista,I'm sure there are settings somewhere on these that enhance the screen. Help, anyone verify this!

Thanks for your kind welcome, Sue..

I can blow up text and spreadsheets in Excel and word and before my most recent "bleed" I used large fonts or increased the size of documents by 125 or 150%.

The problem lies with particular programs for particular tasks. I am contactimg my firm today to see what adjustments can be made, but would like some ammunition in case their response is "Sorry old" chap, hard luck, nothing can be done". (Meaning "Were not prepared to spend the money!!!")

Regards

Chris

I would check with CAB on this.If you have a registered disability don't your firm have a duty to assist in getting you all the 'tools of the trade' that you need?
