Did anyone else see Britain's Favourite Foods - Are They Good For You last night? Dr Alice Roberts gave a very good tip regarding the white mushrooms that are grown in the dark for our consumption. If you place them in direct sunlight for 1 hour, they become rich in Vitamin D. Thought this was an excellent piece of information and so mine have been out sunbathing this afternoon!!

Try and put yourself in the sunlight, it will give you more vitamin d than all the mushrooms you can eat
:);)

I was watching when my daughter asked why I watch so many diet programmes, I commented that I learn something each time, and this time I was impressed to discover that mushrooms are better than us at turning sunlight into vit d! Yay mushrooms!

Love mushrooms but didn't know that, was this the programme that also said peppers help to make you good looking? There was something about it on the early morning news today.

Yes! they are experimenting on skin colour, checking if a pepper and carrot juice as an extra to normal diet can make the skin more 'glowing'.

Well that's good as I like peppers too, not sure it would do anything for my looks as its a bit too late for that :(

It was indeed that very programme - I have already been out and bought a bag of peppers, don't know how long it will take before the improvements take place though!!:mask:

We bought some peppers earlier tonight, my wife cuts them in half and then coats them with extra virgin olive oil and then fills them with couscous, she then bakes them in the oven, absolutely gorgeous as part of a main meal or as a starter.

Carrots contain carotene - a natural orange pigment - and they can be used as a fabric dye. I remember some years ago there were reports of a man who'd overindulged in carrots and turned himself orange from the carotene. So yes I suppose you could get a nice bright "glow" from drinking quantities of the stuff.
