I had a chronic vitamin d deficiency ( wasn't recordable) and now am back to 90. I have sore shins, ankles, pins and needles in my toes, weak arms and legs and it hurts to drive. I also occasionally have sore arm pits ! Is this neuropathy? I've been type 1 for 41 years and am confused now. I've had loads of blood tests which are all fine, as they thought it was everything from rabies to fibromyalgia starting to feel like a neurotic berk now, and seem to keep welling up for no reason? Thanks in advance, every little helps x

Glad you got the Vit D sorted. It is miserable when it is low.

Have they checked you for Vit B12 deficiency too? That throws out symptoms that are often confused for neuropathy.

Besides the B12 have they tested you for folic acid deficiency?

Not sure about results but haven't had a scan..... Think my blood tests are ok but feel frustrated as keep being fobbed off and just told 'normal.' I'm now thinking I'll have to go private, which isn't me but I just want all of the specialisms to get together rather than keep shuttling between doctors with different ideas. Any ideas? X

Thank you for the advice. Doctor thinks I need antidepressants but I said no due to my epilepsy, and won't they just mask the problem? X

I was recently diagnosed with very low Vitamin D. From what I've read, the "boney, achey" symptoms can take a long time to resolve. Apparently the pains are usually caused by microfractures in the ends of the bones, and it can take a while for them to heal. I've been advised to ensure I get plenty of calcium during the 3 months that I'm on the very high dose tablets.

Having broken bones some years ago, I can safely say that the joint pains I've experienced from the vit D deficiency are very like the pains of fractures.

I hope you start to feel better soon.

Thank you. I think I'll say to the doctor that I've a few chronics conflicting and I'm going round paying for supplements, taking them, not taking them and it's making me really anxious in case it is neuropathy. Luckily my epilepsy and thyroid seem OK for now. Every cloud. Felt v weird on holiday this week and burst into tears listening to a Neil Young tribute act ! He wasn't even that bad
