Just got my print-out from the surgery and I'm really quite impressed, if I do say it myself!
Latest HbA1c is 5.5, as opposed to 5.6 last time. It should have been lower, but I've been eating too many strawberries and cream, and I've also found I can tolerate a few more carbs than before, so I've been experimenting. Still, I'm pleased with it.
The interesting result is my lipid profile. In June it was as follows:
Total 5.5
Triglycerides 1.0
HDL 1.2
LDL 3.85
Total:HDL ratio 4.6
This time:
Total 4.6
Trigs 1.0
HDL 1.3
LDL 2.80
Total:HDL ratio 3.5
As far as I am aware that is spot-on! I'd like a little tweaking - HDL a bit higher, trigs a bit lower - but I'm not complaining.
As most of you know, I'm a refusenik when it comes to statins, but I've decided to try a supplement of Red Yeast Rice, which is apparently the 'natural' substance the research was built on to produce statins. I started taking them about September 4th, and the blood tests were taken on Sept 20th. I didn't think the supplements would have made any difference in so short a time, but something seems to have! It's only a small difference, but it's still a difference.
Anyone else tried it, or got any comments? I'm taking 800mg Red Yeast RIce with 20mg Co-enzyme Q10 daily (2 capsules instead of the recommended 3). I'm watching out for the statin-like side-effects I had with Simvastatin, but nothing so far.
