So it was panic stations this morning and I had to accompany Eldetly Relative to A&E - something I always dread. Amaziny got triaged within 15 minutes, then a 3.5 hour wait for treatment. Sadly in all the rush and a naive belief that they'd get seen in 1.5 hours promised, I'd had no lunch. The LibreLink app told me my level was down to 3.5ish so I looked around for a suitable snack. As a newly-diahnosed prediabetic I'm conscientiously trying to watch my levels.

Sadly everything on offer in both vending machines and cafe chiller cabinets was so full of carbs it would have used my whole daily allocation + extra, so I unwillingly bought a bag of Popchips (baked not fried ) giving me "just" 16g of carbs. As expected my hunger was satisfied for 5 minutes...

What I found interesting was the "blip" (blue arrow on pic) from the CGM that i think shows why so.many people get caught out eating snacks that cause us problems later.

Lesson learnt though - as a prediabetic trying to do the Right Thing I need to have an emergency grab bag for the next time. Hospital caterers also need to be more aware of the **** they're selling to a captive audience!

What a rotten thing to happen BUT well done - you managed - and have a sound plan for Next Time. Usually once we have a sound plan, we don't need it, so all bases are covered. As with many people, I keep a grab-and-go hospital bag with basic overnight necessities that I hope I will never need, and your post has impressed on me that I should always keep a diabetic-friendly something-to-eat and a small bottle of water in the 'fridge as well.

Yeah! It ended up being a 9-hour day in the end. Unfortunately this year I've been to A&E soooo many times with family members, and what looks to be a simple problem either ends up being all day or an admission for a few days. Ironically, now that you mention the grab-bag, I don't have one for myself so I'll get that sorted today!
