Hello,
First things first, I adjusted my Lantus and now there are no dramatic drops. Just a lovely 2 or 2.5 mmol drop throughout the night which actually feels good because my sugars aren't fluctuating.
However, there has always been a problem ever since I was diabetic; if I skip breakfast and morning bolus, i am doomed. No matter how much correction dose I add, I still end up in 20s even though I wake up below 8. By skipping breakfast I mean waking up after 12 pm.. how do you deal with this? I'm on MDI so temporary increased basal isnt an option for me sadly.

Wow that is heck of a jump from 8 to 20 :***:

However if you know it is going to happen, and you don't have Libre/Dexcom I would set my alarm clock to somewhere around 10am check and correct then instead of 2 hours later.

I usually find that I know I'm going to spike the correcting earlier is easier to deal with.

As for why you are going so high I can't help on that.

Hi,

Are you saying you sleep till noon. Wake at 8Mmol. Then after midday meal (or breakfast.) you scoot up into the 20s?
Sounds like a carb count to bolus issue? What do you normally eat at this time...?

I skip breakfast myself but then I just can't eat first thing at "stupid o'clock" when I wake. I usually have a late morning "brunch" or wait till midday..
I may have to correct a liver dump during the first hour of morning routine. But I'm not wrestling my Lantus for the rest of the day.. (Unless it's gone bad on me for some reason.)

If I sleep in past 8am, I have to wake and still take my basal and bolus. Plus I still have to wake at 3am each morning.

Sometimes for lie-ins some of us still need to wake!!
