Hi Guys

i just wanted to know of anyone has tried water fasting to help with type 2?

i've read into it a fair bit and it does seem very beneficial for health and weight loss.

i'm going to be doing a 5 day water fast starting tomorrow, i'm not doing primarily for weight loss but for my diabetes, the weight loss will just be a small bonus. i'm going to be checking bloods morning noon and night to check for the impact of the fasting. depending on how i get on i plan to do an extended water fast for a couple of weeks then onto intermittent fasting and low carb/keto.

Cheers

Craig

Hi @craigieboy001

Will be very interested to see how you get on. I’ve been using intermittent fasting for a while (18/6 - no breakfast daily and a lot of 23/1 one meal a day days) but am considering an extended fast - haven’t taken the plunge yet though.

Have you looked at the fasting section of the forum? A lot of useful resources in there.

Please do keep us updated.

I have done a few extended liquid fasts but never just water. I just love coffee with cream too much!
Have you cut carbs yet? You’ll probably find fasting far easier once you have got rid of carb cravings but if you have made up your mind then go for it. Are you taking any meds? That would be my one concern.

i've done IF on and off so thought i'd try water fasting, so far so good on day 1, no hunger issues so far and i've been up and about doing my normal daily routine, i am diarising everything so will type something up once i'm done. i'll definitely check out the fasting part, never realised there was a bit on here for fasting

i've been doing low carb for a few weeks so carb intake has been around the 20g a day mark, i lov my coffee and cream in the mornings, thought i would miss it today but haven't :) i am on metformin for my type 2

In that case you should be fine. Maybe just watch out for the coming off caffeine headache and maybe have a bit of extra salt.

@craigieboy001

I'm actively water fasting (or very low calorie) I started last Sunday and I'm on and off a week into it. Pure water fasting I find isn't a walk in the park but the benefits are amazing (if one can get there) I find that I can't do any work (or I need to eat) I woke today with a really good FBG number

My FBGs have been
Day mmols/l
Monday 5.6
Tuesday 4.6
Wednesday 5.4
Thursday 5.6
Friday 6.0 (had to eat and work on Thursday so I fell a bit off the wagon)
Saturday 5.6
Sunday 4.6
I'm trying to continue. Since last Sunday I've lost about 6.2lbs. My BMI is currently 23.8

There's some helpful info here from Richard Doughty too

I'll keep you in the loop as to how I'm doing.. I'm staying with it as I am so done with T2DM..
