Website for my company

Hello, very soon I'm thinking of starting a new business, a small family hotel. For this I
I will need a website. Can you recommend me where I can do this. I dont have a very large budget. Thank you in advance!

I'm not particularly a PC whizz - just the main Microsoft business packages like Word, Internet Explorer, Exel and so forth - and I managed to put together my own business website, a few years ago. You need someone to host it online, and you need to buy the url (the actual web address) and then to set it up, either using special software, or something like a blogging site, which is what I did, using WordPress. You also need to get the two (host and software) to work with each other which gave me a bit of hassle, but they both had online helpers available and we managed to sort it out between us. The url and web hosting between them cost me about £100 a year. I don't really want to post details on here, but if you'd like to see the end result, let me know and I will PM a link to you.

It's possible to get cheaper, or even free hosting, but the payback is that there will usually be adverts for other products on your website, which was a complete no-no for me and which probably wouldn't be great for your business, either.

Actually creating the website - at least with WordPress - was really no more complicated than using a word processing package. They have a variety of templates for how your site can look and you just drop the content into one of them. You get the text ready "offline" (i.e. so that it doesn't show on the website until you're happy that it's ready to use) and then press the Go button to make it appear on your site. You can also add pictures, links to elsewhere, videos and so forth.

You need to think about what you want the website to do so, before you start, you need to answer questions like: Is it just going to be to publicise the hotel, with photos of rooms, contact details, descriptions of facilities and such like, or do you want stuff like online booking and payment added in as well? I have to say that, in the latter case, you'd probably need to call the experts in although it's perfectly possible that there are add-ons to WordPress that would allow you (with some techy knowledge) to do this.

If this all sounds a bit daunting, there are some companies that will offer a service that leads you through the whole process step by step. 1 and 1 is one such example; I don't know how good they are, or how much they charge, but I suspect they will cost more because their input is greater. Other providers are, no doubt, available and I have no experience of using 1 and 1 so I can't tell you how they compare.

Hope this helps - and that it doesn't put you off. Good luck with this, and with the business :)
