Hi all

So I weighed myself this morning and yay I lost 4lbs. That is not too bad considering I had two meals out in the last 7 days and I am not on super low carbs. At least it is a beginning and it shows me that I can do it. I still have alot of tweaking to do as to what I can eat etc.

The best thing this week has been sleeping through the night and not waking up one two or three times to go to the bathroom and then having to drink pints of water to quench my thirst. So I suppose that is an indication that sugar levels are going down....I think???

And I am finally biting the bullet. I am going for blood tests next week and then have an appointment with the diabetic nurse at the GP for a diabetic check. I know the results are going to be really really bad, but at least it will be a baseline. And I am going to start testing as well. Oh I wanted to ask, if you ask for a copy of the test results at the surgery, do they have to give them to you or can they refuse etc....

Re the test results.....I saw my DSN for my first 3-monthly check up last week, I asked her to write down my test results for me, she said they're doing a new thing now and gave me a 4-page printout of all the results, aims, etc. Don't know whether it's a local thing (I'm in Somerset) or more widespread. Certainly worth asking though, I can't see why they would refuse.

Since everyone has a right to see their medical records, not sure they can legally refuse.
I once went as an advocate to help a mentally ill friend see all that had been written about her.
My own surgery restricts the times during which test results can be given out, but when you're sat with a health professional I'd have thought there was no problem for them giving you the results.

Librarising is correct, you have a right to see your test results. My GP prints them out for me in his own office so that we can discuss them together. I also get copies of all the letters about me from consultants - in fact, one consultant writes to me with the results and copies it to the surgery, which pleases me greatly. That's the way it should be done, IMO.

Don't let them try to charge you for it, either. If they ask for money, ask them to justify it. They are part of your medical records - and they get money for having you as a patient, plus more for you being registered diabetic.

Same here, when attending a new clinic for the first time you should be asked if you want a copy of the consultants report, even if someone is already a patient they have the right to see a copy of all letters/reports sent to their gp.
