Hey all I need some advice!

A mate of mine is organising a weekend away to Prague for his 30th birthday, now this time last year I would of been one of the first names down on the list to go but I'm a bit apprehensive now since developing diabetes. I know full well it will be a drink fuelled few days and the easiest option would be to go and just not drink much but I just cant see that happening! So I would like any suggestions on how to tackle it or if anyone else has had similar weekends away how they went about not letting there levels go too high or low.

I'd say go P85, just stay clear of the beer and drink vodka or whatever the local spirit is and test regularly, keep low carb , stick with sausages. !

Have a great time, you can't do much damage in a few days !

Alcohol + insulin can cause hypos, sometimes delayed ones . It does this because your liver is busy dealing with the alcohol rather than making/releasing glucose This means that they hypos may need more glucose than normal to treat and you might not notice them if you are drunk.
This is definitely not a time to low carb, it's safer to increase them
It depends on what you are drinking, but you may need to eat some carbs/reduce background insulin or both
There's some advice here.

I've just noticed this thread here which you commented on, I would think it was worth re-reading it .

Like they said you can’t do too much damage in a couple of days, if your smashing it big style you will have to run high BG’s just to make sure you’re ok during the night!

Go for it pal and enjoy yourself. Prague is fab!

Cheers for the replies, I have been keeping my levels a bit lower when I've been out drinking lately. I mean I am careful when drinking and don't let myself get into a state where I can't test and treat myself so I think I'll be booking the flight :)

Don't get drunk;enjoy the most beautiful city in Europe. Look in a guidebook and decide in advance what you want to see and do so on foot. The city is compact enough for that. The steep slopes and flights of steps will keep your blood sugars down. You'll need to think about what you're eating, because there can be a LOT of carbs. They do sell an alcohol free beer, which my husband says is quite acceptable. The drink/drive laws allow zero alcohol. [I don't like beer and don't drink]
It may surprise you that the citizens of Prague don't like groups of drunks messing up their city. In fact on a Saturday night often the citizens stay in to avoid drunken Brits.
If you fancy a restaurant in the Od Town Square, eat inside. The bill will be half what you'd pay to eat in the outside area. Don't go up the clocktower unless totally sober. It's a long way down! Last time i went up with my daughter, when she was a child, I held the back of her coat the whole time!
This is my home city and I love it!
