Weight creeping back on but I don't know why...

Hiya, I've not been on here to post for a while but do keep up with you all and I hope you don't mine me asking a question.

I have a problem in that my weight is creeping up. I initially lost over 4 1/2 stone when first diagnosed 4 years ago through low carbing but, I've put on a stone in the last year. I still low carb, don't eat rice (I substitute with cauliflower), bread (just one small slice of burgen at the weekend), pasta (never, I substitute with courgette) or potatoes (two diddy roast ones with my Sunday dinner), sweets, chocolate (other than an 85% square in the evenings). I'm trying to be honest here lol. But, and this is the thing. I can't understand where the weight has come from. I'm going through the menopause so maybe it's that. Plus I've had at least 4 operations (I've lost count lol) since being diagnosed. Is it the anasthetic or maybe painkillers? I only know that it's getting me down. I really don't think I can tweek my diet much more than I have without losing willpower totally. My doctor won't put me on medication because my sugars are well controlled. Where do I go from here? Any advice greatly appreciated. TIA

Julie

Its probably the menopause unfortunately, I was skinny before that, and you really wonder how the weight creeps on despite not doing anything differently. Sorry I cant help.

Do you monitor your calorie intake? How about keeping a food diary for a week or so to see what you are actually eating? Unfortunately I know some meds can mean weight gain as can the menopause.

Do you monitor you bg? What are your readings?

I am 51 and steadily loosing weight but this has been going on for a couple of years so not necessarily related to menopause.

Hi Dawn, Karen and Totto.
I'm thinking that maybe I'm not exercising enough. I suffer from fibromyalgia so can only manage gentle exercise. I will up that a bit and see if I get any results.
Karen, I don't count calories because I low carb. I suppose it's worth a try, it could be that I'm overdoing it.
Totto, I do monitor my bg, and it's been pretty steady. Normally around 5 - 5.5 in the morning and rarely over 7.5 after a couple of hours after I've eaten. I have slackened on testing though if I'm honest. I've got to the point where I roughly know what I can eat and tend to stick with the same routine i.e. the low carb recipe porridge posted on here for breakfast, a small bit of cheese mid morning then chicken caesar salad for lunch, greek yoghurt and berries, salad with either fish or more chicken for tea and a square of chocolate with a cup of tea in the evening.

Thank you for your replies. All worth thinking about xx

Thyroid. Hormonal upheaval like pregnancy and menopause are the times when the thyroid is more likely to pack in than other times.

I've had numerous things wrong with me that can relate to homonal problems. I suffered from hyperparathyroidism which meant my calcium levels were dangerously high. Had to have a parathyroidectomy. Kidney stones stemmed from this (loads of the blighters). Diabetes obviously and, I've also read that fybromyalgia can be linked to hormones. If it doesn't improve with my upping exercise I think I'll mention the weight gain to my DN when I go back in June.
