So since I got my pump, I have noticed a steady increase in the number displayed on the scales!

Funnily enough, I didn't even put two & two together, in that it might have been the sudden lower blood sugars, you know, in a healthy region & the fact that I was suddenly giving enough insulin for the food I was eating. Unfortunately, that means I've gained about a stone in a year! :arghh:

So! I have decided to make a conscientious effort to cut out as many carbs as possible (they are my biggest weakness), because although my diabetes control was SHOCKING before I got my pump, I wasn't nearly as depressed over my weight!

So, to those of you who follow a very low carb diet, can you recommend any stodgy substitutes for a carb junkie like me? And well, substitutions in general!

Thanks in advance! :):)

I was the same @zoze_j I did lchf for a while and lost the weight id put on but due to other health problems it didn't work for me in the long run so i do more of a slimming world type diet, I don't go to their classes or anything but loosely follow it so I'm still satisfied by carbs and lose weight, I'm lucky that carbs (within reason) don't spike me massively but I know others even when insulin controlled still get big spikes so it depends how they spike you X

Hi @zoze_j
typically when we go on a pump insulin usage drops by approx 25% from being on MDI.
but that means that the insulin matches the food more precisely and also because you have been logging everything starting out on a pump - the realisation hits and somehow extra food creeps in ( at least that is what happened to me)
over the last couple months i have tried to cut back and generally only eat 2 meals a day now to try to lower my weight.

Has no one ever told you that scales lie?;):p

Actually LOVE this! The scales may lie, but the second chin I have acquired, which I see in the mirror each day, does not! :joyful::joyful:

I've actually done SW myslef years ago & it worked very well for me. That said, it was before I got my sugars under control! But thanks for the idea, I'll definitely try that!

Cauliflower - you can make a lovely cheesy mash substitute, or rice.

I loooove cauliflower! Especially with a tonne of cheese on top! :joyful: The only concern I have...is that I have a girl working in my office with me. It's a very small office....!!! :joyful::joyful::joyful:

I actually have found the opposite, believe it or not! I've been binging massively on carbs, so I've found I've been having to give myself whopping big doses of insulin to cover it, and of course, more insulin = more weight gain! I've had the pump a long time now, and yes, it's made my life brilliant in so many respects, but I am resentful about this, despite the fact it's my own fault for being such a carb monster!

@zoze_j Would any of the weight gain be due to less exercise as you have sold your horse? After running my own stud farm for many years I know what hard work horses are.

Poor girl in the office - tell her it's that or eggs.

Haha exactly! She's a lovely lass too!

Ok, I am so much blonder than I actually though. Seriously, it has never dawned on me for a second that by giving up riding/**** shovelling, grooming/runnning around a field trying to catch naugty ponies/lifting straw bales, that by not doing any of that my metabolism may have been affected. Face-palm. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Ok so when does the new pony take up residence? :D

Oh my days! No! Lol I've promised myself a break, after having ponies & riding for 20 years! And to be honest, despite the increasing waistband, the increasing bank balance is most welcome! As it that smug feeling I get when it's throwing it down monsoon style outside, and minus 3 and I get to stay inside, all snug & dry! :joyful::joyful:
