Hi, I am 20 years old and I am 5ft 8 and three months ago I weighed around 60Kg. All of a sudden I was hit with diabetes, my sugar levels went sky high and i was admitted to the hospital. I stayed there for 4 days and i was put on insulin injections for a few weeks, then moved onto metformin tablets and now have diet control diabetes according to my doctor.

When I came out the hospital i was 50kg!! I started to eat like mad, and that just about gave me 5kgs because of the restrictions on certain foods. I really really want to put weight on because I just came back from a holiday and I am 50 kg again!!

I was thinking of protein shakes? but it doesn't really feel right, i mean is it ok for diabetics to be taking protein shakes, if so are there any 'good' ones to take?

I would really appreciate any help because being this skinny really is upsetting!

I have very successfully used protein shakes to REDUCE weight - you do have to be careful of the sugar content though as some of them are quite high. I have never used them to gain weight - opposite problem to you!

Another 20 year old, skinny Type2 :0 We're weird.

Could you try to build muscle mass by exercising lots whilst eating more and taking in more protein? Sorry I can't be more help x
