I was diagnosed type 2 Jan this year with blood levels at 12.9 cholesterol at 7.5 and weight at 17 stone. Today I weighed 12 stone 3 blood levels at between 5 and 6 most days and cholesterol levels about 3.5.

The advice I'm looking for is how much weight should I lose? I would be quite happy around 12stone 7 but I seem to be still dropping the lbs.

I am on 3 metaformin a day. Could they be the reason for the constant weight loss?By the way I have been on a low carb diet since Jan and also I do daily exercise.

In late march I went away for a week weighing 13stone 7 and when I came back I had actually gone up to 14 stone. A week after I got home I was back to 13stone 7.

My target weight was when diagnosed was 12 stone 7 which I have now gone past.My problem is knowing what to eat to stay around the 12 stone 7 mark. I dont mind going up a bit because I know I have the discipline and will power to lose it again,what I dont want is to keep losing weight every week now that I am below my target weight.

Any advice would be greatly recieved.

Oh and by the way I do know how lucky I have been to lose the weight and a lost of people would gladly swap with me. All I can say is I have sacrificed and been totally dedicated to losing the weight to stay as healthy as I can firstly for my wife and two grown up sons and secondly and sometimes more importantly I have two you grandchildren who I adore and love very much and so my family have been my driving force and thats the best advice I can give anyone trying to lose weight. Oh and one more thing LOW CARB DIETS.

Hello Dave, many congratulations on losing so much weight, reaching your target and improving all your readings so much. It's a fantastic achievement. You don't say how tall you are but as you were given a target weight of 12st 7lbs, this would suggest you're between 5ft 10ins and 6ft? If so, this would put your BMI at the top end of the healthy range, of between 24 and 25. If you are under 5ft 10ins, you could lose a bit less and still be in the healthy range; for example if you are 5ft 8ins you could go down to between 11st 7lbs and 12st.
But assuming you're happy where you are, a good way to keep your weight stable now is really by trial and error: eat a bit more each day - not chips or doughnuts! - but more of the healthy stuff you've been eating, and check your weight regularly. As you've lost a lot of weight in a short time you probably will take a little while to settle.
I'm not sure if you've had your medication checked since you reached your target weight; now that you weigh so much less and your BG is pretty much normal you might not not need the metformin, or as much. Don't stop taking it but ask your doctor. The fact that you put on weight on holiday, when you probably relaxed your routine a bit, suggests you'll be able to put on a few pounds and maintain a stable weight with a bit of adjustment. If you find that you're eating more and still losing weight, again, see your doctor.

Hi CMichael. Thanks for the reply. You were pretty spot on with my height. I am actually 5ft 11ins.

I did my own test yesterday by eating things I wouldn't normally eat,for example for diner I had steak,home made chips,battered onion rings,mushrooms,fried tomato's and peas. I also had one slice of white bread and then a chocolate dessert for afters. Later for supper I had a large whole meal bap. Basically I used the day to pig out like I haven't done since I was diagnosed in Jan.

This morning I weighed myself and found that I hd put 2lb on and so that tells me that I can put weight on as quickly as losing it and not to worry that I am losing to much.

I would like to come off of the metaformin at some stage but I'm not due back to the docs until September.

i am in the process of losing weight and on a low carb as much as i can,

sorry i cant help with your question, but may i ask. if you had daily treats and if so what they was?

Hi Roxy,

I rewarded myself last thing at night with 2 squares of Lindt 85% cocoa dark choclate(see the thread I started headline chocolate)

To be fair I invested in something else that was one of the main reasons for the weight loss. I put my health before money.

Can I repectfully suggst that you make an earlier appointment?

You hav made a dramatic improvement in your overall condition, so much so that it might be sensible to have it re-evaluated now instead of waiting.

I don't think the doctor will have a problem with you going back early because you have done so well

Hello Dave, I'd definitely agree with LittleGreyCat! Don't wait until September as you're in quite a different situation now than when you were diagnosed. Hope you enjoyed your 'experiment'! Longer-term though I'd suggest just increasing calories gradually and weighing weekly. An overnight weight gain isn't really indicative of anything, but I expect you know that :wink:
 

Oh yes... well done indeed... and make sure that the doctor and/or nurse know it's low carbing that has resulted in this success, NOT their official dietary advice...
 
Hi could someone please help me with some information i have had diabetes type1 for roughly 20yrs,i was quite muscular before and though i've been back and forward to the gym for weight training i cant seem to keep my build on i now am on creatine amongst build up drinks but still finding it hard,now i find that my confidens is starting to affect me,i.e paranioa. Is there anything i can do or take to help me with the weight loss and to build my confidend back,micheal
