Can insulin make you put weight on

Hi Teatime - Some people find they gain weight when using insulin.

Some gain weight when they start on it, because they lost a lot of weight, during the period leading to diagnosis, or starting insulin.

With T2s, we're often insulin resistant, meaning our bodies don't use insulin very efficiently, and on that basis we could need more insulin to control our blood sugars that a non-insulin resistant T1.

Finally from me (although there will be other comments, I'm sure), where the insulin dose isn't right, for the amount of food consumed, it can lead to some weight going on.

So, as you can see the answer to your question is yes, no and perhaps! All very helpful. For those who need to take insulin, it can take a bit of time to get the doses right.

DO you take insulin yourself, or are you about to start?
