I know for myself insulin does not make me put on weight, I've been on insulin for 45 years now and have always been either the correct weight or slightly underweight.
3 meals a day (4 on tuesdays - free food at my local club at about 9:30pm on tuesdays lol) and certainly nowhere close to that much exercise a day - I work form home at my desk all day.
Without insulin resistance, insulin by itself should not cause weight gain afaik
Hey @Dudette1, I had a similar experience - started heavy, was wrongly diagnosed type 2, lost a huge amount of weight then was eventually diagnosed type 1.5. I was put on insulin and gained nearly all of the weight back. I do mostly put it down to terrible advice when starting insulin as my weight stabilised as soon as I stopped following said advice, but I do think that some of the weight loss was not so healthy because of not producing enough insulin, so when I started gaining weight (even though it was unwanted) it helped me feel a bit stronger. I am still trying to get my blood sugar more stable with the insulin, then hopefully I can start working on losing the weight in a more healthy way! Good luck with it!
Like @Rokaab i have not gained weight due to taking insulin.
I was diagnosed nearly 20 years ago and realised today I am wearing clothes I have had for 25 years.
Hi Dudette, yes, I put on weight when I started basal last November. I was on 4 units. But then I only weighed 53 kg and losing rapidly until I was diagnosed LADA, so needed to up my weight anyway. I am now on 8u basal and have stabilised nicely at 58k with good blood sugar readings. That took about 6 months. I think the body has to have time to adjust and reach a stable weight for your build, but that’s just my personal opinion. Good luck with nurse tomorrow and let us know how you get on.Going to have to work harder on the exercise and hope it’s just the bloods stabilising and will start to come off..
thanks for the reply.
Just wanted to get an idea on peoples weight experience since insulin. Back to specialist nurse tomorrow, so going to have a chat with her.
