Hi guys, just wondered how people have gone on with weight since starting insulin.
Starting weight 17st 7 in 2018
End weight 11st 3
Then I started insulin, I eat 3 meals a day, walk around 7-10 miles a day now I’m putting weight on and it’s making me miserable, I’m now 12st 8. I’m doing nothing different except the insulin
I have 2 slices of toast in a morning, 4 squares of dark chocolate with plain Greek yogurt and a few raspberries, tea time is usually a cooked meal beef stew, jacket potato, things like that. I don’t eat rice or pasta. I’m doing nothing different and I’m clapping it on. Anyone else noticed this when they have the same routine since starting insulin. It’s making me not want to eat at all.

I know for myself insulin does not make me put on weight, I've been on insulin for 45 years now and have always been either the correct weight or slightly underweight.
3 meals a day (4 on tuesdays - free food at my local club at about 9:30pm on tuesdays lol) and certainly nowhere close to that much exercise a day - I work form home at my desk all day.

Without insulin resistance, insulin by itself should not cause weight gain afaik

Thanks for your response, I was worried it’s what I’m eating but I’ve been eating the same, I don’t snack, it’s driving me mad. Going to up my exercise and see if that helps.

Thank you for the reply, same to you

Like @Rokaab i have not gained weight due to taking insulin.
I was diagnosed nearly 20 years ago and realised today I am wearing clothes I have had for 25 years.

Going to have to work harder on the exercise and hope it’s just the bloods stabilising and will start to come off..
thanks for the reply.
Just wanted to get an idea on peoples weight experience since insulin. Back to specialist nurse tomorrow, so going to have a chat with her.

Hi Dudette, yes, I put on weight when I started basal last November. I was on 4 units. But then I only weighed 53 kg and losing rapidly until I was diagnosed LADA, so needed to up my weight anyway. I am now on 8u basal and have stabilised nicely at 58k with good blood sugar readings. That took about 6 months. I think the body has to have time to adjust and reach a stable weight for your build, but that’s just my personal opinion. Good luck with nurse tomorrow and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the reply.
I’m so Glad all is stabilised for you now
the body is a weird and wonderful thing I suppose and I just hope I can lose this and get back to how I was.
Definitely I shall let you know the outcome of my chat with the nurse tomorrow.

I’ve spoke to the specialist nurse this morning along with the dietitian, The dietitian says I’m doing everything right in regards to eating.
The nurse says the insulin is the reason I’m not losing weight as I’m still producing some along with the injection my body is holding onto it.
although my bloods are excellent, weight gain isn’t.
She has put me on trisiba and nova rapid
So will see how I get on and hope it helps.
