Weightwatchers and Type 1 Diabetes

Hello

I have joined Weightwatchers as I need to lose a lot of weight, 3 1/2 stone to be precise. My BMI is 32 - terrible I have been doing it for a week and I go to my first weigh in tomorrow.

A lot of their own brand meals are very high carbohydrate so I steer clear from them and try to limit the amount of carb's I eat. But I end up having to eat a lot of fruit to try and stay within my points. My blood control seems fine so far and my insulin has had to be reduced very slightly as I am eating less. Night time is my absolute hungriest time of the day, I take Levemir at 5pm and Novorapid 3 times a day at mealtimes, so i'm wondering is it the Levemire making me so hungry, but i'm eating a lot around 9pm.

Have any other members here with type 1 diabetes joined Weightwatchers and if so, did you lose weight successfully??

Hi
I did weight watchers a few years ago and i am a type 1. MY friend who was not diabetic lost a lot of weight. I struggled, but i seem to only lose weight when i ate a take away. Apparently it is suppose to help diabetic but i recommend you just cut back on what your eating. With weight watchers you must eat the amount of points they give you and no more.
But i wish you good luck for your weigh in. Let me know how you get on.
Take care
Tracey

Hi Samantha,

I haven't done weight watchers but have tried numerous other diets. I also find that I am usually hungriest at night - normally around 9pm. I have my levemir right before bed so I can't really blame that. For me I honestly think I am hungriest in the evening as it's the first time in the day where i find time to sit and do nothing. I find that going to the gym helps keep the food cravings at bay. it also gets easier as you go along.

I think it's pretty usual for diabetics to did it difficult to lose weight. I get so jealous when my non-diabetic friends just think the word "diet" and lose a stone! I have to work hard to keep the weight off but I have managed to get my BMI down to 21. I put the weight on very easily come Christmas time etc though!

Anyway, enough rambling. Good luck with the weight watchers. Hope it goes well

Hi Samantha_joe

I'm a Type 1 and I did WW in 2003 with my husband and 2 other friends who are not diabetics. I lost a stone, a 1lb a week which is what all diet programs advise.
It taught me how to look at food labels, appreciate you can eat healthily and all the cravings that I used to have stopped. WW have great cook books, I would suggest you do get these.

I don't think just because we are diabetic it is difficult to lose weight it's just a bit more challenging with the insulin/carbs lol.
Are you spacing out your point allowance through the day? Perhaps saving more for your evening meal will curb the night time eating?

Good luck with everything and congratulations on taking the losing weight goal
