Hi
Has anybody ever had anything similar to what I experienced this week?
On Monday my BG spiked, I mean 17+. I have a pump so did corrections. But it didn’t come down, I kept pumping loads of insulin in me and it just stayed sky high. I changed the site, line, insulin and everything. Still my BG was crazy, the highest reading was 29!!! This carried on for 4 days. High BG but no ketones either. Then, bang! Everything went back to normal. What on earth happened??

I experience insulin resistance when I get up to these kind of levels so need at least twice as much insulin as normal and, like you, keep taking insulin until it comes back down.
And, as I watch my BG rise, I get more and more stressed which pushed my BG up further which makes me more insulin resistance.

If I get a high BG for no obvious reason I believe it is my body fighting off the bugs and stopping them from becoming a full blown cold/flu/virus/yukkiness.

Oh yeah, and then there is our monthly cycle which can screw with BG too.

That makes sense . I’ve been diabetic 40 years and can’t ever remember anything like it. Diabetes will never stop surprising me.

I hate insulin sometimes, my sugar levels where 10 before my meal so I took 2 units novorapid

Then came teatime, I had 7 units with my meal, which was actually more than I should have had for that meal..

Checked just again after 2 hours... its 12.6, like WHAT!, didnt the first 2 units do jack? Didnt me overinjecting insulin for my tea do anything? No ketones

Just injected 4 units of correction now, as thats usually what is takes to bring it back down, watch me go hypo now....

I forgot to add
It could be all of those things
And..
It could also be compounded by doing less exercise because you feel rubbish because you have persistent high BG.

When I think of all the things it could be, it amazes me that there are bodies that can do all this by themselves!

Glad everything is back to normal now.
