Weird things happening with my blood sugar checker

Hi Guys,

Can anybody explain this to me. About three weeks ago my lancer for the accu-check aviva broke, and I could not find a replacement in any of the chemists. I was given a Freestyle Freedome lite to set up and use myself (It did not seem to have any code chip on this ). I used this as a stop gap while I was away for two weeks although I found it quite hard and easy to make errors on. When I returned from holidays I located an accu-check lancer and began to use this three days ago. However since I have used this my blood readings on the accu-check has skyrocketed to 20, 22, and this morning 25 (fasting). I then do the reading on the freestyle Freedom lite kit and they are pretty normal, 4, 5, 6. However on the Freedom light kit I am sometimes getting readings of 2.0 (which I am told by my doctor will never happen as the gloucophage I am on will not let my sugars go below 3.5).

Is it my accu-check that is faulty - going by both these kits (taking sugars at the same time) I should either be in a coma because of low sugars sometimes (on the freedom lite) or I am off the scale with high blood sugar on my accu-check.

Can anyone explain why the accu-check is not responding?

Funny things happen especially if you use 2 meters.
Glucophage is Metformin and although it's unlikely to push your BG below 3.5, it has been known to in some people and also it's possible to go below there just by not eating, so a 3.5mmol/l reading CAN happen.
Nevertheless, I'd say get the appropriate test solutions and check both meters. I have a Freestyle Lite and I checked out that meter's accuracy record and it is one of the more accurate models. No it doesn't need coding. A big plus!
In addition check the batteries.

As Hana says I would do a control solution check on both meters, make sure you also wash your hands and dry them thoroughly before testing bg.

guys, thanks for this - I will get the solutions and go from there. sorry for being a bit stupid on this - still learning I suppose. I just changed the batteries now also. Thanks again.
