well controlled diabetic need eye and foot screening?

The doctor scheduled eye and foot screening for my dad. His most recent hba1c is 4.7%, fbg is 5.8. Is the screening appointment in 4 months time needed?
 
I never miss any of mine, feet and eyes are important to me.

Yes. Damage may already have been done when he had high blood sugar and spikes. The eye screening in particular needs to continue for life, and the foot checks at least once a year.
 
It is called screening for a reason. Screening spots problems early on.

Without question it is. Getting regular retinal screening is the most effective thing you can do to prevent sight loss due to diabetic retinopathy. Early detection and treatment can stop you from losing sight.

Same goes for having feet checked. My father thought he didn't need regular checks, he's lucky to have only lost a toe rather than any more of his leg.
 
I got my first Eye scree
ning and Podiatrist Appointments this Month.I was diagnosed Type 2 27th of March this year....only December 2013 i was diagnosed Borderline!!!

That woiuld depend what was actually found. Sometimes active treatment is required, but usually, in the first instance, there would usually be a period of monitoring, to see if the damage was progressing of "old".

Obviously if someone has more significant damage, they might need more active treatment straight away. I would say, that latter option is less usual.
 
I'd say yes. If nothing else, it's a bit of a free pedicure. For me, that was the strangest part as I'd always cut my own toenails. But podiatrist also took pics and made notes. So like with the retina images, they'll be able to compare and spot any changes we might not notice. Feet & eyes are important, so worth a regular checkup.
 
That's interesting that you were referred to a podiatrist for screening. My GP checks my feet with a pricker type thing but that is it. I will definitely ask my Doc about this, thank you.
