Been drinking Gallons of water this weekend and have lost a stone in about 6 weeks (without trying - in fact trying to put it back on), and having a father who is type 1, I asked for an emergency appointment.

Saw that nurse and having tested my sample went 'oh. fortunately, she told me that her son is type 1, so there was geniune empathy

She then found that I had a Level of 13.1 without having eaten anything this morning (just a cup of tea - which I regret as if I had not had it, she could have taken proper gasses)

I had borderline keytones, so, so far she did not want to tell me type 1 or 2.

unfortuantely, hate anything medical, and not looking forward to the blood test.

I am not going to read to much tonight, as I am a bit depressed, and I am getting really confused by do/dont take too many carbs etc.

All I glad of is that I have found this forum (it will mean more to me than the ones about speeding/parking tickets, and my car)

Look forward to reading loads when my head is a bit clearer.

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
Either you or I are confused. why do you want gasses tested, when it's glucose that's at issue?

I seem to have a doctor who is in the 21st century.

my bloods came back this morning and were 15.2 (fasting) which was higher than on Monday.

he started me straight away on Metformin (1 per day) and wants to see me again tomorrow.

he has also said that I need to go and see the nurse as I need to know how to test myself (Whcih is somehting I gather not many GP's want) and also see a Dietician.

I am finding this site great, and will read loads more when I know how to check if what I am doing is working. I also have a father, father in law, and aunt who are diabetic, but unfortuantely, they all admit that they dont do it right.

I know it is goign to take time, but I just want to feel a bit better.

It is amazing that I was fine until Sunday, and then I have felt 'wierd' for 3 days. i know it is a combination of knowing I am high, and stress.

Oh, many more years of this.

Hello.

Just a quick update. i have now spent 4 days at the doctor (monday found out, tue blood test, wed was a mistake; thu, doctor and blood test)

my levels so far have been
13.1 monday am (after a cup of T)
15.2 Fasting bloods on tue.
12.1 this afternoon.

I am on 1 Metmorfin a day (which I will take in the morning) and have been told that if I do not get my levels to below 10 by next week, I will be on THREE.

This is becuase the same doctor treats my dad, who started looking at this website some years ago, but has ignored everything he read.

I just need a bit of help becuase of my life style.

I like Wheetabix, but what can I put in it, as although I dont take sugar on anything I have, I alwasy did on Wheetabix.

I do understnad about the low carbing, but I am waiting a bit as I think it will be too much of a chnage.

Teh problem I have is my work life. I spend over half my day in the car, and have immediately given up all the fastfood, but am just looking for some ideas of what I can get. I am very lucky that I get a £5 lunch budget.

Today, I went into Asda, and bought some bar-b-q chicken thighs (£2.00) and had three of them. Was this OK, as it was in a sauce (still a bit naive)

I like M&S and know I can get cooked cold chicken.

Also, what about snacking. I am so lucky I am not a fussy eater, but wonder if there are any bars, or more exciting food, than fruit or 'nuts'

Also, any views on a malt loaf/fruit loaf?

Any other ideas.

Sorry to harp on, but people seem so helpful on here.

Getting Started

And if changes to your menu and the metformin don't have a reasonably rapid effect please ask your doctor for testing for type 1 or LADA.
