What A Waste!

During a really useful NHS educational course (SHIFT) about managing my diabetes, they have changed my BG meter to the latest really clever version, as I have have almost completed this course and, presumably have a rough idea of what I am doing. However, that leaves me with a large stock of "old" consumables: testing strips, lancets, together with the lancet pen and the old meter, all of which are perfectly usable and hygienic, with untouched tamper protection strips and long expiry dates.
I guess the total retail value of this perfectly safe stock is around £250-£300. I will offer it back, but it is probably destined to be burned. What a waste.
Does anyone know of a way this kit can be put to better use than being thrown in an incinerator?
 
I find it useful to have some spares.
A spare lancet pen will never go off, the battery never fails and is interchangeable with different meters.
From experience, I can confirm it is a pain when the button on the lancet fails and you have nothing else to use.

It can also be useful to keep a spare meter. Unfortunately, the test strips have an expiration date so the meter has a best before date.
 
The chemist should take back unused consumables like the strips.
I am sure you may get some takers (type 2s who don't get funded for meters) here though if they can send you the a pre paid jiffy bag plus a donation to a charity maybe? Possibly the National Charity for Pincushion Fingers...
