HI EVERYONE, I FEEL SO HOPELESS AND FED UP
OVER THIS LAST 2 WEEKS I HAVE BEEN TESTING
14 DAYS 7 TIMES A DAY AND LOW CARBING, OR SO I THOUGHT ,
12 RESULTS WERE UNDER-- 5
32 RESULTS WERE UNDER---6
39 RESULTS WERE UNDER---7
8 RESULTS WERE UNDER---8
2 RESULTS WERE UNDER---9
2 -RESULTS WERE UNDER--11

THE ONLY CARBS I HAD OFF THE LIST TO AVOID,
OVER THE 14 DAYS HAVE BEEN
A CHERRY AND WALNUT SCONE
HAD PART OF A BROWN ROLL /2 THICK CHIPS
WHITE RICE WITH CHILLI
2 POTATO WEDGES----
WHICH ACCOUNT FOR THE 2 UNDER 9 ---AND THE 2 UNDER 11

I WANT TO GET MORE RESULTS UNDER 6 I KNOW I MUST BE DOING
SOMETHING WRONG, BUT DONT KNOW WHERE TO START

and you know when you test 2 hours after meals , in that 2 hours can you snack in between as i have been doing , useually after my evening meal, i have had some nuts, or/ and babybel cheese or 1 or 2 sugar free chocks , or should you wait until after the 2 hours, the trouble is i feel hungry , and then all i can think about is food

Hi Jeenie,
The whole purpose of testing 2 hours after a meal is to see whether your blood sugar has dropped back to near enough what it was before your meal. If you eat something else during that 2 hours then of course that is going to affect the reading. But if you are eating the right amounts of the right foods in your meals then you shouldn't feel like snacking so soon after a meal.

Can you give us an idea of what a typical meal contains, then we might be able to offer some advice.

Hi Dennis, Thanks ,
A typical meal, now, would be,about 6oz meat, fish or chicken , with vegitables, at least 3 portions 3/4 lb or a lrg bowl salad ,
Then i usually have the nuts or/and cheese, either straight after or later, but before the 2 hours are up, i do wonder if its habit, because i,ve always done it, in the evenings, but before dx, was lots of chocolate and sweets and crisps/nuts

Also, i,m always tired lately,i,m always yawning even whem i,m out and about, my friends comment on it, i excercise, by going dancing, and walking, quete a lot , i also sweat a lot, not just when i exercise ( dont know if this is because of the bc cancer i had, i,m not on meds for that anymore, or is it my age  )

Try to incorporate your snacks into your meals. If you want to see how high the BG goes before dropping back, test 1 hour after eating.
Are you on medication, or diet and exercise only? If on meds, make sure you take them at the right time and dosage.
If diet only, get a book or a table from the internet and check the actual carbs in the vegetables. Are you having a lot of roots, or beans? these can be traps, because they have more carbs than you expect. Also watch out for peanuts. Botanically they are not true nuts and have about 10% carbs. this contrasts with walnuts which are only about 3 % carbs and macadamias, which are around 5 %.
When are you exercising? Dancing and walking are very good, but they need to be at least every other day.
If you are not on medication, it might be that you need some. I know that I can't manage to keep on target without a little help from Metformin.

Hi Jeenie,
The tiredness and sweating are both symptoms of running high blood sugar levels, but the figures you quoted don't look high enough to be causing that. So it is more likely that there is another cause (possibly a thyroid problem). Your best bet would be to explain the symptoms to your doctor and see what he/she advises.

Yes i will do that, add the snacks to my meals , and
Will do the testing an hour after meals 2morra,,------ have been out all day today which means have had,
for Lunch, ham salad, with coleslaw ------had a few almonds before lunch as was running late,
Evening meal, 50grms of olives , 4 chicken tikka and pineapple kebabs with salad garnish, followed by a mint choc icecream, a small glass of red wine then a cappachino coffee,
I have, just tested after meals today
i had porridge for breakfast, made with full cream milk, tsp of sweetner, and a sprinkle of cinnimon
test when i first got up was 6.0
a/b was 7.1 a/l was 6.9 a/em was 6.8
