What are my goals regarding blood sugar levels?

Welcome to the forum :)

Type 2?

Your goals are to get your sugar levels down as close to the non-diabetic range as you can manage.

from http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care ... anges.html

Before meals: 4 to 7 mmol/l
2 hours after meals: under 8.5 mmol/l

I like my fasting level to be below 5.3 in the morning. I am very happy when it is below 5.0.

Two hours after eating I like my level to be below 7.0, but am happier when it is below 6.0.

Just to add - don't give up if you don't achieve this in the first few weeks :-)

4 years as a T2 and I don't achieve those targets yet but my HCPs think I have very good BG control.
I don't, but I'm trying and getting better each year.

Cheers

Yes, you're absolutely right LittleGreyCat :D

Any downwards progression in sugar levels is good.

Hi Lindadaiz and welcome to the forum.
I see from your proilfe that you're a parent of a diabetic, and I am assuming not diabetic yourself? (from your profile again)
In which case, could well be your enquiring with reference to your child who could be a young type 1? If so, you need to talk to your health care worker to see what is right for your child's condition. If I'm wrong and it's about you, apologies, and I agree with the above posts.

Hi Lindadaiz and welcome.

If you are the parent of a Type 1 diabetic then you need to talk to your healthcare team about goals. For a Type 2 diabetic the goals are as previously posted by other members.
