These articles rather came as a shock to me. I had no idea of the level of industrial chemicals and corn by products that are being applied to fresh produce bought in supermarkets. including animal products being sprayed on vegetables and various industrial polymers being sprayed on organic foodstuffs.

Its all very dispiriting in terms of finding what actually are natural food stuffs and how to actually buy them when living in a city with no access to a local farm shop !

Have you taken a look at veg boxes like Abel and Cole or Riverford? There are also some local ones available.
Theses tend to contain organic vegetables.
They are more expensive than supermarkets but taste much better, contain produce in season and support farmers.
Nowadays they are more flexible with what the boxes contain. However, looking through the default options for the week make me try different recipes rather than getting into a rut of same thing every week.

I used Abel and Cole for some time but found food going to waste so stopped. I tend to shop daily especially for all the vegetables I eat.
A friend warned me about what covers apples when I saw him scrubbing an apple like there was no tomorrow. I wash all fruit and veg these days.

I joined a privately run local allotment group as an associate member this allows me to buy from the allotment shop at a discount.
