I'm told it's more like genetic due to my family all having it. My father got it early 30's and I also got it at 30. But it actually took a while for doctors to test me because they didn't believe I was old enough. They tried to send me to the sexual health clinic to get tested lol. Was only when I moved and the new doctors took me serious. So I guess I'm t2 but I guess genetic.
Totally agree with you.I come from a family of t2s and when i was diagnosed with the same at age 43 it was no surprise. I was already overweight but LOSS OF WEIGHT SUDDENLY led to blood tests that showed my readings at 400. But since I have gained back all the weight inspite of metformin, statin and a whole lot of meds. Have understood that neither doctors nor the layman[ read friendly but nosy neighbor ,over enthusiastic friends and the know it all uncles] has nailed it as far as t2 is concerned. Yes and their comments like I did not try my best to prevent it or constantly asking about my diet does'nt help.
I think people are quick to judge and label someone with t2 and take the easy option and say it was our own fault etc. But I don't think it's that simple. Maybe some people should have watched how they ate etc I've always been strict with myself my whole life I was fit and I ate healthy. Then I just ballooned in weight and I felt really unwell. I think it's only because I got my sugars under control again my metabolism rebooted and I lost all the weight again. It's a long hard road tho and think people should be helped encouraged and given support. Not bullied. We are after all not a label we are people.
I guess there are many factors one can get diabetes. Yours may be genetic. My grandpa and father are Type 1's, my sister too, but my other siblings and I were fine. I only got Type 2 last year, 51 yrs old. I blame it, without proof, on long-term use of prednisolone combined with a diet where I didn't care how much carbs were in them. My brother in law who got it blames it on his daily consumption of various chocolates.
In my case, I lost a lot of weight fast, although all within the proper BMI values, as well as energy. I was finally diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic.
From this article - http://www.diabetes.co.uk/symptoms/unexplained-weight-loss.html - it is more common for Type 1, but I am still Type 2 and Diamicron MR (gliclazide) is helping me get more insulin, and a much better diet of course. Diabetes is actually getting me to have a healthier diet.
I did eat a lot of pastries and sweet stuff trying to gain back my original weight, didn't realize I was just making it worse.
I'm not losing weight anymore, but not gaining any either.
