I am Type 2 and I have been told that I can't drink fruit juice or indeed any fizzy/sugary drink which is obvious, however I am so sick and tired of drinking water and tea and it gets boring and I get very thirsty are there any alternatives?

Hi,
I drink Robinsons Fruit and Barley No added Sugar diluting juice and the No Added sugar Vimto cans, these do not seem to affect my bg.

Great, thank you, I wasn't sure if I could drink them, I like Robinson's is it only the Fruit and Barley one that I can drink or all flavours? I haven't seen the Vimto cans about but then again I haven't been looking but I will be now, thank you once again.

You are very welcome, I am not sure about the other ones, but as long as they say "no added sugar" they should be okay. The fruit and barley range does a lemon one too, its nice. I usually go for the peach or the blackcurrant. I have never lost the "thirst " and drink this and tea all day and as you can now tell half the night too.

I made a pact with myself that as long as I drink plenty of water, I am allowed no sugar "treats" to drink. I tend to use diet fizzy drinks as a pick me up if I'm feeling particularly low, much in the same way I would have turned to a bar of chocolate on a bad day before I was diagnosed.
So although consuming these chemical laden fizzy delights is not the best course of action, they certainly won't impact blood sugar.

My repertoire includes: diet vimto (both fizzy and cordial), sainsbury's diet dandelion and burdock cans, diet irn bru, diet coke, coke zero, diet pepsi, pepsi max, robinsons no added sugar (always have a variety of bottles of cordial available, and I drink a pint of weak cordial every night with dinner), Herbal Teas: peppermint, buttermint (tastes like murray mints), chammomile tea, and anything else herbal. I don't like fruit teas very much.

Hi, I'm just curious as to why you drink lots of water? I've often read on these forums that people drink lots of water. Have you been told to or is it something you did anyway before being diagnosed?

I follow a low carb diet, so it's important for me to stay hydrated. Water helps the body to metabolise fat, flushes out toxins, and I find that it helps keep hunger at bay.
I also tend to get urinary tract infections, so I drink plenty to keep my bladder flushed and the gremlins at bay.
For me it's been a habit for years.
