What do you do if you're not sure if u have done your correction dose

I know this makes me sound like I've lost my marbles and going crazy! BUT - I have started taking a new medication and it's sent my BGs crazy.
So I just tested my BG (after no carbs all day) and my BG is 18.5
So I decided to do a correction dose, got my pen (then Got distracted by one of my daughters) and I can't remember for the life of me if I did the correction dose or not.

Just wondered what everyone else would do in this situation, I've done a dose now - but now wondering if I've done two! So will keep checking to make sure I don't drop rapid.
I can't be the only one that does these things surely!?

You're certainly not the only one!!!

I'm on a pump now but since having my baby I'm forgetful too. Sometimes I forget to do insulin all together after meals and things (oops!)

I'd be doing the same as you though, just keep testing every hour. More often than not when I'm that high I require a double dose anyway so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Obviously you may be different to me though.

I hope it comes down soon for you and you have a hypo free afternoon xx

When I have an erratic day - I always end up having a hypo during the night .... Booooo.

Glad I'm not the only one that does these things tho!

They're good for tablets aren't they. But in this instance it was insulin. So they wouldn't of helped

You can get something that goes on your pen. It's digital I think and records when you last used it and how much you gave. I don't know for definite but I think diabetes UK do them, might be an option if you're concerned xx

I've done this many times. I used to have a Timesulin cap as mentioned above but now I use Novo Echo pens that record the last dose you took.
 
I have the Insulcheck device which is triggered by giving a shot of three or more units. If I need a smaller shot, I wind past 3 then back to what I need and shoot!

Use an electronic diary on your i-phone, when you eat, log it, when you inject, log it, when you do a blood test, log it.
I went without a diary for years, although my hba1c was relatively ok, I couldn't recall things i done or not done during the day.

I've used an electronic diary for the past year and day to day monitoring is really helpful, otherwise we tend to have short memories.

Since the age of the smartphone and i-phone I couldn't recommend the use of an electronic diary more highly. It'll help, just to see what you've done during the day.

To be fair.

It can get so routine. One can doubt memory... Do you log stuff on an app as you go?
This can work as a great "reference"...
 
The only absolutely way to manage is to retest after 4 hours( eg for Novorapid which lasts 4-5 hrs) and correct again then. If you are more confident in how your insulin/BG behaves then you might be in a position to make a correction decision at two hours if you are not seeing the planned BG drop underway.
 
yes we have all done it. I have even injected my normal dose of basal 16, but used my bolus pen, terrible..
Wish i had a pump 50yrs now and no sign of one. At least then it would be easier. Trouble is I look after myself too good, seems if you don't or deliberately don't , they let you have one.NHS is no good at decisions

+1 for the novopen 5 (or echo) - has saved me a lot of hassle remembering what jabs I have or haven't done!
