Sorry I can feel a rant coming on here!! I have integrated diabetes into my life for 53 years and the only thing I really hate about it, is it gives other people the right to interfere in my life. This wasn't too bad until the last few years with the governments highly praised 9 tests for all diabetics which are supposed to prevent complications and make us all live longer. Makes me wonder how I survived so long without some GP or DSN squinting at a computer screen and telling me - dear dear your HBA1c is 0.2 too high - you need to lose some weight etc. I just wish they would stop treating me like a criminal if a test isn't exactly where it should be - I am sure for many years of my life my BS was well over the limits they now set. Urine testing and keeping it at a certain shade of green did not give stability, but I have survived 53 years. I will be interested to see in 50 years time if these wonder tests have kept more people alive and free of complications! I believe having a positive approach and not allowing my diabetes to prevent me from being spontaneous, training as a swimmer when that was frowned upon - (exercise was deemed bad for diabetics 50 years ago you know), going abroad (I was told not to do that as there was more ozone in the air which would destabalise me) , dancing the night away etc etc is what has kept me going. I refused to be crippled by my diabetes, it would live with me and what I wanted to do not the other way around. Doctors on the whole hate chronic conditions, especially when they cannot control and/or cure them. So they are now in this position where they have 9 tests which they can use to pretend they had some power over the condition and if they are abnormal blame the patient of course. I recently told my GP I was not given diabetes as a punishment for a crime, you are not my probation officer and I am the person in charge. Until he decides I am at least an equal partner, then no more tests. You see I am not allowed access to the results as I was when I had a specialist, no printed sheet for me any more, no care plans, just criticism. End of rant, sorry but my GP drives me a bit crazy sometimes  .
