Hi, i've just returned off my holidays form a cruise. Whilst there i had a hypo, bad enough to take me away from the dinner table for a brief time. Whilst i was away my wife got talking to one of the women on our table. My wife explained that i was diabetic and a couple of days previously i had been unwell for a couple of days, (sugars ranged from 10 to 22). The lady said that when diabetics go that high they must, wait for it, take "VERY HIGH LEVELS OF CARBS," :? , yes, you have read it right. Upon further conversation she asked her what she did for a living and the reply was "a "midwife" who deals with pregnant ladies who have gestational diabetes."  Needless to say i didn't talk "shop" any more as she was adamant that she was right.

An interesting theory me thinks!!!!!!

Lucky escape, but would have been handy if you'd needed a midwife. Hope the holiday was good
other than that little hiccup.

Hi Hazey,

Hope you had a good holiday! I was told the same thing by my dietician when I was diagnosed... "if you're unwell you may get very high bood sugar readings, in which case eat foods such such as ice cream and drink sugary drinks". I never did understand that advice. Luckily I've not been ill yet!

The world is full of donuts. Unfortunately, most of 'em end up working with diabetics.
