What does alcohol do to you?

Diagnosed as a late teen I struggled keeping up with my mates when binge drinking, woke up on a glucose drip a few times on the local hospital, I later found I could drink Guinness to excess on a night out but struggled the following day playing rugby and these days don't drink at all due to the day after and the hassle of keeping your tester/pen or pens and glucose with you.

I have quit drinking - until the next time. Everything sends me high, except a few spirits. I got D as an adult and ever since alcohol except in extreme moderation (half a shot of scotch on the rocks) really knocks me about. I still keep trying and failing.

I wonder if it's because of the metformin? I know being keto means the alcohol makes you drunk quicker but I'm struggling to understand this.
I found the following warning concerning Metformin on Healthline:
  • Alcohol use warning: You shouldn’t drink alcohol while taking this drug. Alcohol can affect your blood sugar levels unpredictably and increase your risk of lactic acidosis.
I was also rather dismayed to find this:

Heart or blood pressure drugs
These drugs may increase the levels of metformin in your body. This increases your risk of side effects. These drugs include:
  • furosemide
I am currently taking Furosemide (a diuretic). I am wondering if the problem may be that taking Furosemide could lead to dehydration.
