What does Hi mean on my meter reading?

I have a Nexus RX Glucose monitoring device and today tested my blood sugar. Earlier I had a reading of "29". An hour or two later I tested again and just got "Hi" displayed. What does this mean? Do I need to take tablets to control my blood sugar?
 
It means you blood sugar is either A) over 33 mmol which is very high or B) you had a faulty test strip or a contaminated strip-I'd check again to make sure-if it still says 'HI' then I would seek medical help.

Did you eat in between the readings? I would retest as stated above. It also depends on whether these test were taken before eating or shortly afterwards
 
I agree, from your profile I see you not on any Medication, you need some to get levels under control
 
If you have any doubts make sure you are testing with freshly washed hands. If the result is still showing these high numbers, I agree with the other posters. Seek medical help soon.
 
Hi. You do need to be on some medication quite urgently. Do see the GP soon or if you feel unwell then go to A&E. In the meantime keep the carbohydrates down and drink plenty of water. Are you overweight or normal weight? If normal or underweight your T2 diagnosis may need to be checked out.
 
I would also add that going to the pharmacy if possible to purchase Ketostix and testing for ketones would be very wise in these circumstances.

I'd agree Andy but if it was possible to check for ketones very quickly beforehand if at all possible,i,e,a very local pharmacy with some in stock and it shows positive for ketones in conjunction with very high BG's it should speed the whole process up as they will take that very seriously indeed-if it isn't practical to quickly obtain some ketostix than I would also say-Go to A&E asap as ketoacidosis is deadly untreated.
 
It means your blood sugar reading is off the charts. I haven't read your original post, or any of the above, so type this without knowledge of anything that has transpired since.

If T2 diabetic and these astronomical readings are fairly recent, i.e. not been more than one day:
- Call out of hours doctor for advice
- Cut back on the carbs and clean up your diet *this can be disregarded if your diet is clean*

If it's been like that for more than a day, and not going down, I'd waltz into A&E, you may well misdiagnosed and in fact not producing Insulin, so sensitivity pills won't do a whole deal.

If T1:
- Take some Insulin yo.
 
Thanks for the replies. I went to my gp after learning that the readings were abnormal.
