Hiya

I've just returned from doc's appointment. While there he noticed that I had a fungal infection in my mouth and said that it was unusual. He is now sending me for blood test to check if I am diabetic. I'm very confused - I had gone with an upset stomach! I also have under active thyroid and PA. Can anyone throw any light on this? Should I be worried or is he just covering the bases? Any help would be very much appreciated

hya,
if u have no other symptoms then id imagine they are just checking, this is good though as some drs need pushing to test,
fungal infections can be one of the symptoms of diabetes but try not to worry and let us know how u get on, if you are diabetic the quicker you find out the better so you can get it under control :D

Hi Rea and welcome to the forum. By PA do you mean Polyarteritis? If you have been on courses of antibiotics then this can sometimes cause thrush in the mouth. Also prolonged course of steroids can cause diabetes to develop as well.Has your doctor explained all this to you?

Also hypothyroid may be a factor, IMO this often needs to be controlled a lot tighter than some doctors are willing to consider and may have marked effects on blood sugar if not.
