Ok we've had the music threads but what would be your top dvd's or books to take on a desert island (assuming there's solar power to run the dvd player, if I'm going to be stranded on a desert island I'm not slumming it!)

If you want a jolly romp and history is a hobby then Jodi Taylor's, St Mary's chronicles are a great read and entertaining.

Also have a look at Lesley Hales novels, I really enjoyed them. She is a member of the forum.

You will enjoy it and the follow ups one of the best series of novels I have read in ages.

Have just waded through W S Churchill's six volume History of the Second World War

Did the James clavell novels way back when, enjoyed the Martian.

Back in the seventies Leon Uris, tomes were a great read.
Even, Archers novels like Kane and Abel, were good reads. He has a new trilogy out.

I was captivated by The moons a balloon, I'm not a reader of autobiography's , but this was fantastic. It's a bit battered looking, but I will never give it away. I still haven't read Bring on the empty horses, what about trying your local library ? If they don't have a book in stock, they can usually order it in.
 
Watched The Green Zone with Matt Damon, good film, backdrop was the USA looking for WMDs after the invasion of Iraq and finding zip. Great fan of all the Bourne films too.
 
Read all the Bourne books before they become famous, books far better than the films. There was one of Ludlums books called Rheinmans a Exchange that I really liked. There was also a film made about one of his books but can't think at this time.

I don't own 1 DVD and I hate reading. If it were a choice between watching the film on tv (not DVD cos I don't have one) or reading a book, TV would get my vote hands down. I can get films through the PC and watch them directly on the tv cos they is connected init.
 
Always liked Catch 22 by Joseph Heller so I would take that. I'd have a bit of a job though as I think I gave my copy away
 
William Horewood, Terry Pratchett, Agatha Christie,

Rear Window, Dirty Dancing, 2001 a space oddity.
