Type of diabetes
Type 2
In April l was diagnosed with type 2 ,and have been put on metformin 500mg SR once a day Hb1ac was 68 and l felt awful, after taking it for a week my blood sugars had dropped down to around the 6 .5 with also having a changed diet also lost weight and l feel so much more human,my question is when l get retested in a few months what is the figures they look for ? as l asked the pharmist she said below 7 but on my blood results it was below 6 so any help would be great, when l look back lve been diabetic for years just never diagnosed

The HbA1c and the type or reading that you would obtain on your home B/G meter are different things. The HbA1c gives your AVERAGE B/G level over a 3 month period (up to the Blood test time) and your home B/G meter will show your reading at the instant that it was taken. The figures are related but aren't the same thing.
You Home B/G meter is particularly useful in checking how well your body copes with eating/drinking particularly if you measure you pre eatin/drinking B/G levels and again 2 hours later, that way you will eventually learn what you can safely eat and what is best for you personally to avoid.
Well done on what you've achieved so far in reducing your weight and revising your diet. You are heading in the right direction and will soon become the MASTER of your diabetes and not it's SLAVE.

Your HbA1c re-test should be 3 months after your initial diagnosis. As @Lazybones says it gives a more accurate blood sugar level averaged over the previous 8-12 weeks. The meter tests you are doing aren't 100% accurate, and can be affected by various factors.
You are doing well with reducing bs readings and weight, and if you keep it up your next HbA1c test should hopefully be at 7 or below, in the non-diabetic range.

hello thank you for the replies l bought a meter after reading the great info on these posts, lve learnt l cant eat quit a few foods as this spikes my blood sugars and gives me the headache from hell, starnge when you find out what caused my headaches,l also installed onn my phone the sugar smart app and thats so intresting,l know l have a long way to go but in a better place on a health point as its been the missing piece of the jigsaw for other things that my consultants struggled with ,l think over the years lve had every blood test going bar except the diabetic one which it turns out l needed.

When I shifted to LCHF nearly 10 weeks ago my migraines and all headaches stopped. This has never happened to me as a life long migraine sufferer:) just one of the benefits:)
