FOOTBALL. MY husband is a sports fanatic and watches everything. Most i can put up with just not football.
Just asked on the bottom of another topic but thought better this way.

I am due to start insulin tomorrow and dont know what to expect. My DN is away till the 24th so have to tell the Doc whats going on coz they dont even know yet.

Does the doc put me on it there and then or will i get sent somewhere else?
Will i get the choice of a pen or syringe?
How long will the whole proscess take?

Hi

Wen i went on insulin it was the DN to show me what to do with the insulin ie how to look after the insulin how to inject it and where to inject ,the Dn will all so tell you how many units and how many times a day.
as for the choice of pen the DN will decide on type of insulin and pen.

The proscess take,s about 1 hour, You have to keep a good record of yore BG levels. and how to treat hypos.

No idea what's going on with you so a bit confused by your post.
If I have read this right your GP has no idea you are going on insulin, so I have to ask how do you expect him to put you on insulin if he has none for you? Insulin has to picked up from the pharmacist with a prescription. There are many different types so will probably take at least 24 hour if not 48 for the pharmacy to order it in for you.
I also doubt your GP will have time to show you how to inject so that will be left to the practice nurse. You wont actually inject insulin in the surgery anyway. As depending on what type you have will depend on when it's given ie, before meals or before bed.
You can ask for which ever you want re the pen or syringe :)

Hiya, I'm type 1 on insulin via pen. I've only been on it since last August after going into a diabetic coma, I wasn't diabetic before!! I don't have any probs with the injecting side of things really. It was a shock but that's life, gotta get on with it! My advice is to get into a good routine when handling your gear, to keep it all clean, safe etc, protecting yourself, One thing that gets right up my nose though...... having to inject in public loos when eating out. I won't do it! I do it discreetly at the table and just smile at those who stare! Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine!

Very confusing ain't i  . Basicly i have got chronic pancreatitis. Diagnosed friday after a long time. Was told i'll be going on insulin and have to see the doc tomorrow. It should all be down on the computer for the to read anyway. I hope. I dont think I'm worried about it really. Its just change and i wont hide my injecting, its life and i am rebelious :D

Good on you! Go for it!

I was referred to the diabetes clinic and the consultant prescribed my insulin initially. He spoke to one of his DSNs who then showed me how to inject and watched while I tried it (without any insulin in the pen I might add!). She then gave me a prescription for the insulin. Gave me the pens I needed plus spares, explained to me that a unit of insulin drops BG by about 3 points on average and that 10g carb raises BG by about 3 points on average. She then sent me on my way, but rang me every day for a week to check how I was doing and adjust my doses - she expected me to record what i'd eaten and the amount of carb, test before and after food and have the figures ready for her when she rang. She was very good. She saw me every fortnight for about two months to review progress with me. Now I ring her whenever I need to, but only see her once a year.

Good luck with it!
