I am t2 -what levels of carb and total sugars per day to get my blood glucose levels down?

Hi

Just avoid all sugars if possible and concentrate on total carbs. Go for foods with 10g (or less) carbs per 100g. Low carbing really starts I would guess at around 100g/day, but many try to do less than that - personally I try and do no more than 50g.

I think only your glucose meter can tell you that.

Start with an initial daily carb allowance of say 100-150g and test your glucose before and two hours after each meal. If your after meal count is more than 2mmol of your before reduce carbs further or try different carbs,

Let your meter guide you as there is no one prescription fits all.

Thanks for the advice. I will use my meter more often pre and post meals. I bought some meal replacement shakes and meals thinking that they would help me control carbs and support my weight loss but I am a bit concerned about the sugars levels in each. E.g a shake has 13.22 gem sod carb in a 37g sachet if which 10.76g are sugars. Am I right in thinking this proportion is just too high for me?

If 13g is for a whole meal then it does not sound like a lot to me but only testing can give you the answer.

Concentrate on carbs figured, sugars are irrelevant.

You set your own goal for bg control. I aim for back to baseline at two hours, not always possible of course, but that is what I aim for. But then I do LCHF and my last HbA1c was 35.

So test, test and test to see what you can tolerate and decide on what is a reasonable level for you.
