What is an insuline pump?

Hi guys my name is Lauren and only got diagnosed type1 last Halloween!
The 1st time i hav heard of an insulin pump??? wat is it exactly? x
 
Hi my son is on pump therapy.

His pump is from roche its a smallachine that is attached to a thin tube and a canula that you change every 2/3 days. It gets rid of daily injection and kinda acts like a false pancreas it drips insulin into you (basal) and u still test yrself and input carbs and it gives you yr bolus insulin and corrections. Its a fab thing we love the pump here.

Next time you visit your diabetic specialist, ask them if they could show you one.

Generally there are criteria to be met if you were to get one. At my hospital you had to either be planning pregnancy (no use for me that one) of have a Hba1c of 9.5 or higher.

It probably differed from pct to pct. ask anyway though! :)
