Hi all.
I've noticed over the last few weeks my bg seems to be higher in the morning than it is for the rest of the day. I'm waking up with a bg in between 6.7-8. Is this something to worry about? I inject 2 units before breakfast and it's usually down between the 4-5 by the time I have lunch

I think a morning high depends on what your usual BG is. Mine usual is quite high at the moment, between 7 and 10 and mornings are anything up to 15!!

They don't look high to me. I wouldn't be worrying if i had them i'd be celebrating. Mine was 16 this morning after i over indulged late last night. I've heard of 'liver dumps' tho when your stored glucose is dumped into your blood stream early a.m. before you wake, its so when you get up you have the energy to catch a Buffalo so you can actually eat. Caveman stuff.

I bet cavewomen never had to catch a buffalo, so why do we have to have the dreaded liver dump? <stamps foot>

I read today somewhere, good for the equality thang, that women did go hunter gathering with the men, man's macho image is a myth. So get in on that liver dump and go get me my bison for breakfast i feel like a sleep in :)

Yes, they went gathering while the men went hunting, so go get your own bison! :p

it does seem a bit high..I think the target is 4.5-6..have you asked your nurse about increasing your evening Humalog mix 25?

Jack

I haven't asked my nurse about increasing my units in the evening although I do have an appointment in a couple of weeks so will bring it up. The thing is my night time BG is in the range of 5-7 so if I increase my evening units will this not increase the likelihood of a hypo before or during sleep? As with my night time BG my average reading before lunch and dinner is between 3.5-5 so I don't know how I can increase it without waking up during my sleep :/

You say that your night-time bg is between 5-7 before bed and your waking to the same levels (with the exception of the 8 reading) so your insulin dose is fine and needs no adjusting, my concern would be your pre-prandial readings where you say your bg is between 3.5 -5, the 5 is fine but 3.5 is too low and you should try and keep it above 4 if possible, this way your less likely to lose your hypo awareness symptoms over time.
