Hi I follow this site avidly and thanks to advice I"ve found here I have lost weight and my numbers are in target 100% of the time However I"m discovering some strange things. 1 plain biscuit e.g rich tea gives me a big spike but spaghetti has no effect Bread is totally off limit as are potatoes and parsnips but all other veg is fine Apples are an absolute no but peaches are fine. It is clearly not carbs or sugar alone causing problems so what is it? If I have a big spike after a meal, so far the numbers are down to an increase of 2 or less within the 2 hour slot Does this mean spikes don"t matter ? Honestly I feel a complete moron. I don"t want to have a more restricted diet than I need as I live with a large family and I don"t do the cooking (i"m 82 and have spent more years cooking than I want to remember ) The cook likes to be adventurous ! I"m still working part time but food and my sensor are beginning to obsess me. Grateful for any advice.

Apart from the amount of carbs, there's also the speed of digestion, and hitting the bloodstream.
Spaghetti for instance is notorious for raising BG slowly and very prolonged, so if you're testing at the 2 hour mark you might miss what it's doing in the next 4 hours.
With the apples it may be you're catching the peak of the spike where the peaches may spike quicker, and you're testing when it's on the way down again.
A lot may depend on what else, if anything, you've eaten

I have absolutely no idea if this is what you're seeing, but it might be a factor.

You say you use a sensor, are you seeing any patterns telling you more?

Thank you for replying No the logbook didnt.tell me any more either If there is a spike it comes down quickly and before the 2 hour window is reached the line has levelled out and if it is higher than pre meal it has always continued to drop more The only thing that seems to keep it somewhat higher is if I have a burst of activity for example when I wake bg is around 4.7 _5.3 by the time I"m showered, dressed, bed made it"s 6.4 _6.7 These numbers can hang about for a couple of hours whether I This messes up my morning numbers whether I eat breakfast or not.
