I used my BG meter for the first time tonight. I took a reading before I ate - 5.3. I then had a pile of veg with cheese and a piece of white fish. Reading two hours later was 5.8. I am quite happy with those readings but it got me wondering.
Does everyone's blood glucose rise every time they eat anyway? Like everybody, not diabetics particularly. Is it normal for BG to rise when we eat whether we are diabetic, prediabetic or not? Also what does the test first thing in the morning prove when we have had nothing in our stomach for a good few hours? Might sound like strange questions but I was just curious.
Yes I did thanks. I had a five inch (ish) piece of white fish, I made a tomato sauce out of a couple of very ripe big tomatoes, added herbs, a few slices of aubergine, half a red pepper, half a green pepper, and a spring onion. Topped it off with some mozzerella and a bit of hard grated cheddar,
My lunch had me puzzled today. I had new foods for lunch so decided to test and my BG reading was 4.9 before I started eating. I then went for a moderate 45 minute walk. An hour after lunch my reading was 4.3 and after 2 hours was 5.2. At times there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the results of testing. If I eat the same lunch again, I'll test again but won't have the walk.

SO you had a bit of carbs from the tomatos, maybe 4-5g, plus the protein will be partially converted to glucose, so overall you would expect that kind of rise, even in a "normal" person
