Hi all! I was brought up with two parents being diabetic so I am aware of type 1 and type 2.My OH is a type 2. I noticted on the Austria comp entry a type 1.5.Please could someone explain to me what this is and how it it diagnosed and treated?
Many thanks,Izzy

Type 1.5 is sometimes used to describe LADA, which is what I have. Not all endocrinologists recognise this 1.5 title though. Mine doesn't it. He prefers me to be labelled and treated as a Type 1.
LADA stands for Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults and is also sometimes referred to as Late Onset Type 1. Hope that helps.

Thankyou all for your quick responses and links. It has been a great help to me and explained somethings which have been puzzling me.As stated before,I had two diabetic parents and as such have always been aware of the genetic factor, which has worried me abit.Over the later periods of my life,I have noticed that when I get an infection eg;colds and flu,I develop a thirst and really feel "out of sorts".When I have checked my BG when I feel like this,it is 3- 4.This usually occurs during the first 2 days of infection.I have mentioned it to my gp but blood test always come back normal.I intend now to present this information to my GP for discussion.Thankyou very much.
