Hi,
Haven't posted for a little while, but just looking for a bit of clarity on what might be going on.
Shortish history:
Diagnosed last Nov at 35 with hba1c of 89. 6' 93kg
Went on metformin for a month, couldn't cope so onto gliclazide 40mg
Month later up to 80mg
Month later up to 160mg
Hba1c 69
Anti GAD test normal
Couple hypos
Reduced to 80mg
Reduced weight to 88kg
Couple more hypos
Hba1c 34
Asked to change to metformin sr on 2 a day.
Damaged neck so had to stop exercise for 4months, weight increased to 93kg.
New dr
Hba1c 38
Now reduced metformin to 1 a day.
All well and good on the hba1c front, but I just don't get how I can be the same weight as I was before and only on metformin but have a normal hba1c. Did the glaclazide kickstart something?
I was testing fairly regularly and could easily be in the teens 2 hours after food but fasting is usually in the mid 5s to 6s. Still getting low 10s after food. It's like everything is alright at the background level until I eat or exercise then levels go up.
So I do spike quite a bit but the average is ok. Are spikes a worry? New dn wants me to test more as I want to stop metformin but she still thinks it's helping.
I was going very well with my diet but it's gone back to **** food again, I may have lost my incentive as the levels are fine.
I've had comments saying 'I feel sorry for you getting it young', 'you need more control as you'll have to live with it for longer'. But maybe I've got it beat?
