I am T2 and have been fine for several years with dietary control, however after a rough patch with an MS flare up and lots of steroids I have gained weight and my Hba1c level is up to 54 .
I was put on Metformin 500 SR twice a day but it hasn't brought my numbers down despite my finger prick bloods being between 5 and 7 through the day.
I am also on prescribed thyroxine and have suddenly gone way up for TSH levels...more than doubled and already on 250mcgs per day.
Just wondering what if any other meds I might now be offered as I am struggling to lose any weight and unable to exercise due to disability.
Any input much appreciated.
Thank you

Steroids and T2 is not a great mix. But if you aren't on the steroids permanently the impact is reversible.

Do you see an Endocrinologist? Hopefully, they may be able to take an overview of your conditions (T2 and Thyroid at least) and understand how treatments interact.

There are a couple of possibilities apart from the impact of thyroxine and steroids - carb creep, where over time we slowly add more food/carbs in, or just a change which means our bodies can't cope with the level of carbs it was fine with.

Exercise didn't have much impact on my weight loss. I'm disabled and use a mobility scooter. I lost the steroid weight by doing low carb. If I were you I'd try to get everything else sorted out before focusing on my weight.

Thank you for your reply. I haven't seen an endo for many years...he did discover that I have Pernicious Anaemia and got me on to B12 injections but after that he shunted me back to gp.
Unfortunately like many people I am finding it very difficult to get to see a GP and since my previous one retired have never met any of the three who are at my surgery. Always phone appointments which I don't mind usually but feel perhaps a f2f review might be helpful now.
I can but ask.
