What to do

The Codefree is calibrated to convert the reading taken from whole capillary blood to the equivalent venus plasma blood. This is why it may read higher than other meters, but it should be a more accurate assessment of your plasma blood test results (HbA1c etc.) The AccuChek Mobile is similarly calibrated, and from what I understand most meters are, too. Older meters may not be, and possibly the odd brand. I have always used the Codefree and do get a surprise when I have my HbA1c test - a nasty one usually. My meter readings with Codefree and also with the Libre sensor that I wear show my HbA1c should be significantly lower. I am certainly not alone in this. There are other factors to take account of when attempting to estimate an HbA1c and that is whether we are high or low glycators - those of us that are "average" glycators will get the HbA1c they expect. Then there are other factors concerning personal haemoglobin issue to take account of. The HbA1c is not an ideal measurement tool, but it is all doctors have.

Thanks for this - I must admit I was a little surprised when my libre sensor gave me the same number as the "A1Cnow " HBA1C test gave me. The last time I did the formal test - I got the same result from the home test as at the doctor - so I've no reason to suppose that that is wrong this time. I extrapolated what I was expecting my hba1c to be from previous doctor tests (three data points - and the same diet) - so all in all it came as a surprise to me to find they were all in sink. My codefree meter readings would lead to a higher hba1c than the last reading. ( by at least ie probably 5.9% to 6.4%)

I guess its all just sent to try us ! I would feel more comfortable if the libre and the codefree seemed to be a bit closer though !

My gut instinct says - assume the codefree is giving more accurate bloods sugar readings and this the libre is too optimistic despite it " seeming " to be in balance with the Hba1C. I guess it doesn't matter if I just stick to the same diet anyway - puzzling though

@CherryAA My Libres (apart from the last very erratic one, which was replaced) gave me ridiculously low HbA1c estimates. One was an HbA1c of 27. The others have been around 35/36. I have never been under 41 from the GP tests. Go figure that!!

It's all a mysterious game.
