ok reckon iam going to be diagnosed type 2 a week on Monday, presently for lunch at work i eat a white roll with ham,a small box of raisins, a packet of yougrt blackberries,a banana, a low fat yogurt and a bag of walkers lo fat crisps washed down with diluting cordial, should i change anything and if so what to ?

Evening,

Well, if you are diagnosed then you'll need to consider what your levels are and then determine what you can eat to maintain or perhaps improve them. You won't know how dramatic your diet will need to change until you know where you are now and how different foods affect you.

That said, I know I couldn't eat the lunch you have described - I could literally only eat the ham. But we're all different and you won't know what you can eat until you can test.

well for a start I'd replace the white roll with a wholegrain roll (using olivio spread), the box of raisins with a carrot cut into batons, the banana with an apple, the yoghurt blackberries with some blueberries, the low fat yoghurt with a proper set greek yoghurt (no added sugar), the bag of crips with a bag of Walkers SunBites (they're wholegrain), and dump the cordial for green tea...

but that's me...

I wouldn't change a thing until you've got your diagnosis confirmed. You don't want to give a false reading and get a false diagnosis!

After that, if you are diagnosed diabetic, come back, have a good read round, and ask any questions you like. We're here to help!

I agree with the others' suggestions re your lunch, though. Eating to control your diabetes - "eat to your meter" we call it - is not difficult, it just needs a new mindset. Do try to get them to give you a blood glucose meter and test strips on prescription. Some PCTs are reluctant to do this - tell your GP you want to control your diabetes by diet, and you'll need a metre to find out what foods affect your blood glucose badly.

Good luck
