What's your target BS range?

I hear a number of different figures for the ideal range of blood sugar readings.

4-10 is commonly quoted, I have also heard things like 4-7 before meals, 5-9 after etc.

I was surprised when my DSN set up my new Aviva Expert meter with a target range of 6-10 saying that setting it any lower would lead to too many hypos.

So what range do you aim for and what do you consistently achieve?

I have a target in my pump aiming for a 5.7 Bg during the day and 5.9 between 11pm and 6am
my BG meter says my 30 day average is 6.8 and I achieve my target range of 4.0 - 9.0 approx. 78% of the time.
15% above target and 7% below.

my last HbA1c was 6.6%

My target range is set at 3.9 to 7.7 because I believe most of the evidence points to damage occurring from levels of 7.8mmol +

Having said the above, in reality my ranges are more like the following:

Overnight/fasting/during the day: 4 to 6
the 2 hour period after eating: 5 to 9

My hba1c has been steady at 5.4 to 5.5%

Edited to add: My Libre says that over the past 90 days I have been "in range" (i.e. 3.9 to 7.7) 81% of the time, above range 17% of the time and below range 2% of the time.

I aim for 3.9-8mmol/L. On a good day it can be 80%+ (according to my Libre) but it depends on what I eat. My average for the past 7 days is 62% in target. My last HbA1c was 40mmol/mol

Your BG range should ultimately be decided on, and agreed, between yourself and diabetes care team. You might want to have a look at this for some more information:

Do you have a history of running low regularly? If so this could be why your DSN has chosen to set your range slightly higher than optimal.

My goal is 70-100. I teeter over 100 sometimes after BF but the rest of the day is always in range. 85 is my bingo number. I very rarely go under 70.
That being said, I eat the same size meals everyday at the same time and I know my bolus for them. They are small meals, vlc, moderate protein and healthy fats. I can't randomly eat because I can't stay flat. Many would find my way of eating monotonous and boring but I look forward to every meal. I eat a large variety of different proteins, nuts, pumpkin seeds, flavored olive oils, herbs and spices and avocado at every meal. Loads of variety and flavors with the same macros. Works for me but most people would get bored of it. I tend to think of it as 'just food'

My Dr told me a range of 90-130
